One more death and 278 new cases take Nepal’s Covid-19 tally to 2,912
Nepal on Friday reported it’s 11th fatality due to Covid-19 and 278 new cases, taking the national tally to 2,912.

According to the Health Ministry, the polymerase chain reaction test on swab samples of a 28-year-old man from Surkhet, who died on Thursday, came back positive for Covid-19 after his death.

“The man had come from India on May 21 and was placed in a quarantine facility at Janata Secondary School at Panchapuri Municipality Ward No. 9, Bidhyapur in Surkhet,” said Dr Bikash Devkota, spokesperson for the Health Ministry. “He was sent home as he did not show symptoms of Covid-19 for 14 days and the rapid diagnostic test also came negative. The victim died on June 4.”

An additional 278 people also tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, pushing the total cases to 2,912.

“Samples of 90 in Dailekh, 44 in Kapilvastu, 21 in Sunsari, 17 each in Mahottari and Ramechhap, 12 in Jhapa, seven in Jumla, six each in Morang and Rautahat, five each in Kavre, Bhojpur and Dadeldhura, four each in Kailali and Dhanusha, three in Bara, two each in Kathmandu, Sindhuli, Tanahu and Nawalparasi (East), and one each in Arghakhanchi, Dang, Palpa, Surkhet, Achham and Bajhang and tested positive for the virus at different laboratories across the country,” said Devkota.

On Thursday, Nepal had reported one death and 334 new cases, highest in a single day. Likewise, one death and 201 new cases were reported on Wednesday. 288 cases were reported on Tuesday, while 239 new cases were reported on Monday. There were 166 new cases and two new C0vid-19 deaths reported on Sunday.

According to the ministry, people from 68 districts have contracted the coronavirus infections.

Kapilvastu has so far reported 479 cases, the highest for a district, followed by Rautahat with 394 cases while 312 cases have been reported in Dailekh.

Similarly, Banke has reported 255 cases; Sarlahi has recorded 149, Jhapa has recorded 132 cases and Parsa has so far reported 115 cases.

“So far, 88, 366 polymerase chain reaction tests and 132,966 rapid diagnostic tests have been carried out across the country,” said Devkota.

According to Devkota, 333 people have been discharged from various hospitals after recovery.
