Gorkha Rifles Naik Rajib Thapa died for nation, won’t cry: Mother
Jalpaiguri: A helicopter carrying Gorkha Rifles Naik Rajib Thapa’s remains landed on the football ground at Mechpara tea estate on Sunday morning, two days after he was killed along the LoC.
Thousands waiting outside chanted ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Pakistan Murdabad’. Rajib’s mother Reena said: “My son laid down his life for the country. I will not cry. I will bid him goodbye with a smile as I had done when he joined the Army. He was a brave son of this country and weeping at his demise would be disrespecting him.”

Thapa (34) died in unprovoked firing by the Pakistan army in Rajouri district’s Nowshera sector. He is survived by wife Khushboo and a 7-month-old daughter. He was last at home six months ago, after his daughter was born.
Leaders from all parties were at Thapa’s home at Labour Line 8 on Mechpara tea estate when his remains arrived around 8.30am. North Bengal development department minister Rabindranath Ghosh, who visited the house on behalf of the CM, assured the family all support.
