Represented Cong. thrice in Lok Sabha

Mani Kumar Subba, a controversial former MP from Assam whose allegedly doubtful citizenship was probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, passed away in Delhi on Sunday night after a prolonged battle with illness.
Going by the age mentioned in the affidavit he filed for contesting the Tezpur Lok Sabha seat in 2014, he was 61.

Wealthiest MP

Subba, aka ‘lottery king’, was the wealthiest MP from the Northeast before perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal of the All India United Democratic Front was elected to Parliament from Assam in 2006. He represented the Congress thrice in the Lok Sabha from the Tezpur constituency before the party dropped him.
He fell ill while campaigning during the 2014 election that he contested and lost as an Independent. Subba did not quite recover and spent the rest of his life in his Delhi farmhouse.
In a condolence message on Monday, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal commiserated with Subba’s family. The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union said his death was a great loss to the community, particularly poor children and the needy who were beneficiaries of his largesse.
