An earthquake of slight intensity, measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale, shook the Darjeeling region of West Bengal this evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The quake, which had its epicentre at latitude 26.7°N and longitude 88.3°E, occurred at 2004 hours at a focal depth of 10 km, an IMD bulletin said.

Earlier this morning, a tremor of magnitude 3.2 had been recorded in the Sonitpur region of Assam. The quake, which had its epicentre at latitude 26.9 N and longitude 93.6 E, occurred at 1058 hours at a focal depth of 10 km, the IMD said.
