Centre wants tripartite meeting with WB & Bimal Gurung

Darjeeling situation
Once again, the situation of the hills might get stirred due to the probable tension between the centre and the state. Centre intends to call this meeting for the ‘peace and development’ of the hill people.

The Central Home Ministry Chief Secretary has sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of the State Government though email regarding tripartite meeting on hill issues.
The centre is keen on calling a meeting. The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh wants the representatives from the central Government, state Government and pro-Bimal Gurung Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) in the said meet. Whereas, it can be summed up that the state is reluctant on the meeting if the actions of the state is observed and analysed minutely.
The state has recognised officially Binay Tamang and Anit Thapa as the current leaders of the hills. Hence, the differences that will surface between the centre and the state might turn out to be tough to resolve, at least for the time being.
The centre has made it clear that it wants Bimal Gurung lead GJM leaders as representatives because it was Bimal Gurung who lifted strike after Rajnath Singh appealed to lift strike on September 26.
The centre wants to have any representative of Gurung as a ‘lookout’ notice has been issued by the state against him.
CM Mamata Banerjee has just left for London today to attend centenary birth celebration of sister Nivedita. Her stand would be clear once she returns.
The centre has also made it clear that it would not agree to welcome Binay Tamang as GJM representative if at all he is called for the meeting.
