Bengal Gorkhas seek help for Gorkhaland from Gorkhas living across India

AMRITSAR: Gorkha community of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and other hilly districts of West Bengal have sought support from Gorkhas living in Himachal Pradesh and other parts of North India not only to intensify the Gorkhaland movement but also to spread it in rest the country.While talking to TOI in Himachal Pradesh's Bakloh in Chamba district on Sunday, Gorkha Sabha president Vijay Gurung , said, "They have sought our support for a separate state for Gorkhas to protect Gorkha identity" adding that Gorkhas were demanding separate state within the framwork of Indian constitution.Bakloh, home town of 4 Gorkha Rifles, is a tiny hilly village bordering Punjab 's Pathankot district with settlement of four to five thousand Gorkhs.Gurung was on way to Bakloh after attending two day 70th Annual General Meeting of All India Gorkha Ex-servicemen's Welfare Association held in Dehradun.He said that delegates in the meeting were unanimous in their view that despite having born and lived here all through their lives in India, they were generally dubbed as Nepalese which was incorrect and hurt their feelings.
