Hill people should be thankful to Didi: Shanta Chhetri

"People of hills should be thankful to Didi (chief minister Mamata Banerjee) as she nominated a female candidate from the hills for the first time for the Parliament. There is no need for Mamata didi to woo the people of Hills because people here respect and love her a lot. People in the Hills consider her a mass leader," Trinamool Congress nominated candidate from hills Shanta Chhetri told on Tuesday at Siliguri.
Chhetri former Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) MLA from Kurseong is confident and thanked chief minister Banerjee for entrusting her as an able candidate from the hills.
Chhetri added, "I am honoured with the responsibility that our president has entrusted upon me and I will try my best to live up to her expectations. This also shows Mamata Banerjee's love for the Hills and its people. I will work for the development of the region."
She said if she becomes MP she will be focusing on the developmental issues and to bond the better relationship between the people of hills, Dooars and Terai belt. More emphasis will be given for the betterment of the tea garden workers.
Chhetri started her political journey with GNLF in 1994 when she was given the party ticket to contest municipal elections from Kurseong. She was a part time teacher at the Kurseong College then. She continued as a Councillor till 1996 when she won as an MLA from the Kurseong Assembly constituency as a GNLF candidate. For three terms she was the MLA from Kurseong.
Fifty nine years-old daring lady is the working president of TMC, Darjeeling District (Hills.) She is also the chairperson of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti of the Darjeeling District Hospital and a member of the North Bengal Development Council.(EOI)
