Sikkim Government is doing works to grant ST status to left out tribe , on issue of ST Sikkim government is committed informed Smt. Tilu Gurung Hon'ble MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary who was present as the chief guest of a two days National level seminar of Gurung community which started today at Kalimpong Mela Ground. She informed about the move done by Sikkim Govt to help Gurung get tribal status adding the proposal have been already sent to Central Government.Gurung language is included as state language and is been taught in Higher Secondary level in Sikkim.A interpreter in Sikkim Legislative assembly for Gurung language and Sikkim Government move to protect the language and culture move was addressed in her speech.The centre seems not serious as now the time has come to unite all gurung of the country for preservation of our language ,culture, rituals, history for which Sikkim government is always ready for Help informed MLA Gurung.

The first day of the convention people and representative of Darjeeling Hills, Sikkim, Duwrs, Siliguri and different state were present  .The convention organizing committee convenor Samuuel Gurung proposed to form a national committee which he informed to discuss to day to reach conclusions and declare tomorrow.

Gurung have given a lot to this country still we are lacking behind linguistically, culturally and ethnically informed Samuel Gurung Who is also A member of GTA from Kalimpong. South District President Shri C.L Gurung,Y K Megi ( Chairman),VP South Devi Maya Baraily too was present in the program which saw different colourful programme today at Mela ground.
