US official met GTA members in Gorkha Ranga Manch Bhawan Darjeeling

The United States Consulate General in Kolkata, Helen G LaFave, today held a meeting with members of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) in the Gorkha Ranga Manch Bhawan here.
The meeting Ms Lafave held with GTA Deputy Chief Col Ramesh Alley, Darjeeling MLA Tilak Dewan and Principal Secretary Gautam Ghosh, was a “courtesy call,” GTA officials said.
“It was more of a courtesy meeting,” Mr Ghosh said, when asked what they talked about.Later, Ms LaFave, who arrived in Darjeeling yesterday, also told the press that it was a “courtesy meeting.”
“The view of the Kanchanjunga from Darjeeling has been a delight to my eyes,” she said.
Talking about the importance of Darjeeling tea, she said: “Darjeeling tea and Assam tea is known for its flavour even in the United States of America.”
Also, concerned about the rise in human trafficking worldwide, Ms LaFave met members of MARG, an NGO here. She also visited St Joseph’s School.
MARG members later said in their Facebook page that they suggested Ms LaFave to organize training and exposure visits for MARG volunteers.
According to them, the visiting US official assured them that she would “take up the matter.” (sns)
