Kurseong police constable's body found at Faji Hydel Project area
The body of a police constable was recovered under mysterious circumstances from a reservoir at Faji Hydel Project area under the Kurseong sub division this morning.
The dead man has been identified as Kalu Lama, 39, a resident of Gandhi Gram in Kurseong, and a constable with the Darjeeling Police. He had also been a security guard for the GJMM General Secretary Roshan Giri for several months earlier.
Family members and police sources said he had recently been posted at the Faji Hydel Project, and only yesterday, he had talked to his family members over phone in Kurseong. His phone was however switched off after around 4:30 p.m.
The Kurseong Fire Tender Officer in charge, Dambar Bahadur Thapa, said that at around 10 in the morning they were informed by Kurseong police to recover a body from the reservoir. He said that they recovered the body which seemed to have been washed down a canal and got stuck near the mouth of the reservoir.
The sister of the deceased said a thorough investigations should be conducted and reports handed over to the family members.
It is learnt that the bruises found in several parts of his body also pointed to the possibility of his falling into the canal accidentally. Kurseong Police IC, Mr Moloy Mazumdar, said the body bore several bruises.
A doctor at the Kurseong Hospital said that a detailed post mortem could not be done in Kurseong due to lack of facilities and the body has been sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for the purpose.SNS
