Darjeeling DM Puneet Yadav meets bankers for metered taxis loan

Darjeeling district magistrate Puneet Yadav on Friday conducted a meeting with representatives of a number of  banks at the Siliguri Circuit House to ensure loan facilities while implementing the project of introducing 1,000 metered taxis on the roads of Siliguri and another 100 in Darjeeling.
The Regional Transport Authority of Siliguri will issue 1,400 offer letters to eligible applicants and the process will commence from September 1. The letters will be valid for 30 days during which the vehicle has to be obtained.
The list of eligible applicants will be displayed on the district website and at the SDO/ARTO Office in Siliguri from August 31.
The district magistrate requested bankers to inform their concerned branches to sanction the loans to those eligible at the earliest.
Banks will put up information and publicity kiosks at the Circus Maidan, the meeting venue, on September 1.  The remaining offer letters will be issued the next day by the RTA Siliguri at the Kanchenjunga Stadium. The banks will set up information and loan offering kiosks at the venue next to the offer letter desks. The DM said the banks have assured him it will not take more than a few days for them   to verify the credentials of the applicants. They said they will provide loan related information brochure from the kiosks at the Kanchenjunga Stadium to inform applicants about the rates and documents required for the loan.
The bankers assured of all necessary cooperation in this initiative of the transport department. (HS)
