Ambootia tea estate Vs Cinchona Plantation in land controversy
There is a controversy between Ambootia tea estate Vs Cinchona Plantation in land rights row.
As a major crisis at a tea garden in Kurseong sub-division ended today, disturbance seems to have hit another tea plantation in the area.
While the Jungpana Tea Estate that was closed since 31 July is set to resume work from tomorrow after a deal in Siliguri today, the sub divisional magistrate (SDM) today clamped section 144 of the CrPc in the Ambootia Tea Estate following tension over a land dispute there. Kurseong SDM U Swaroop said the prohibitory orders were issued for 60 days as a precautionary measure.
Mr Swaroop said that as per information he has received, there was tension between workers of the Ambootia tea plantation and the Cinchona plantation nearby while planting trees on a disputed plot of land in the tea garden area.
He added that three to four days ago, the director of the Cinchona Plantation had complained to the ADM, Darjeeling, that some workers of the Cinchona Plantation were threatened by workers of the tea estate over the land.
Mr Swaroop further said that both the Cinchona Plantation and the Ambootia tea estate have been staking claim to the 155 acres of land there. According to him, in 2006, under the consent of both the parties, the land and land reforms department in Kolkata had transferred the disputed area to the Ambootia tea estate.
“Both the parties should solve the problem through negotiations with the help of the Land and Land Reforms department, Kolkata, because so far, such a matter has not been taken to court,” Mr Swaroop said.(sns)
