Mamata Banerjee to visit Darjeeling Hills on July 16
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to arrive in Siliguri on 16 July and leave for Darjeeling Hills the same day, sources said today.
Administrative officials and police have started making arrangements for her visit to the Hills.
Sources said police have decided to tighten security not only for her as the chief minister but also the chief of the Trinamul Congress, a ‘one-man party’, keeping in mind the ruling party’s future prospects.
Interestingly, north Bengal development minister Gautam Deb today did not disclose her detailed itinerary, at a time when labour department officials have planned to approach her to have her inaugurate the regional office of the labour department, which is almost ready at Dagapur, near Darjeeling More in Siliguri, during her visit to the
Hills.
“I do not have the detailed information on the chief minister’s visit. The Chief Minister’s Office at Nabanna and Uttarkanya may have the same,” Minister Deb said.Official sources confirmed that the CM would be coming here on 16 July and will leave for Darjeeling. She will stay in the Hills on 17 and 18 July, but they do not have further information.
Another source said she will be coming here, “specially to take rest in the Hills” after completion of her programmes in south Bengal districts till 14 July.
Notably, Miss Banerjee had informed administrative officials in north Bengal, during her visit to Alipurduar on 25 June, that she would be coming here in July again.
Sources also said top administrative officials close to the CM have been repeatedly requesting Miss Banerjee to take care of her health because of her hectic schedules.
Officials noticed some problems in her health when she came to the Dooars in the first week of June.
Sources said she did not take rest after completion of the general election campaigning and continued with the official and political programmes.(sns)
