Thakurvari temple in Kurseong Mahanadi Bajar in dilapidated condition

Thakurvari temple in Kurseong
For the past several decades “Thakurvari”, a Shiva temple located in Mahanadi Bajar, about 7km from Kurseong town is in a dilapidated condition and it needs immediate repair works. The temple has served as a favoured religious destination for the people of Kurseong and other adjoining places for years. The temple used to be maintained by the donation from these devotees and the temple priests. But with the passage of time the donations have gone down and the temple now stands almost like a ruin.
Thakurvari head priest Rameshwar Nath Mishra informed the temple was last repaired in 1986 by a generous devotees and resident of Kurseong Gulabchand Agarwal and Sitaram Agarwal. However, such generosity has ceded and the little amount the temple collects from offering and donation these days are not enough to repair the temple.
The temple was also badly affected by the earthquake of 2011. Priest Mishra and his family members have been trying as much as possible from their side to maintain the temple but it has been a herculean task for them with meagre resource to re-establish the temple without concrete support from generous devotees.
The condition of the temple is in such bad shape that it could give up anytime and in such a situation good donations from any source would be a blessing in disguise. The temple priests have urged the local people, well wishers and the government to support them to repair the frail structure of the temple.(EOIC)
