Kalijhora GJM submits deputation to Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia

Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia
The Kalijhora unit of the GJM today submitted a deputation to Darjeeling MP SS Ahluwalia demanding the immediate start of the fourth stage of construction at the NHPC project. The party’s No. 32 and Kalijhora unit working committee members including Raju Tamang, Lakpa Sherpa, Pratap Bishwa and Suraj Tamang, met Ahluwalia in Kalimpong and submitted the deputation.
The NHPC is a mega electricity project being developed in Kalijhora, but construction work has remained suspended since the past one and a half years. The delay is causing untold problems to the people, the GJM leaders lamented. The project, once completed, is expected to increase the economic viability of Kalijhora and its environs and will boost the income of the local populace given the employment opportunity available. However, the sudden shutdown of work has led to apprehension among stakeholders as to whether the project will be completed at all, Bishwa observed.
He said the tender for the project was won by Hindustan Construction Company and a dispute between the NHPC and the HCC resulted in the shutdown of work. Bishwa said the delegation had a long discussion with Ahluwalia and the MP has assured to discuss the matter when he goes to Delhi.(EOIC)
